Hi all thanks for the add.
I have a pd 130 mapped to 177bhp. Changed in tank pump as was not working. Primed the system and wouldn't start. I called a deisel doctor out who diagnosed problem. It turns out my belt was poor and has ripped about 2/3 inches of teeth off. Now the guy said the 1.9tdi of lumps rarely bed calves and said it should be ok. So she is getting timing set and new belt today for the sum of £50. So worth a shot a guess. What's people's thoughts on damage to the engine. Am I going to be luck and is the guy going to be right. A sure hope so. Thanks for looking all

'bed calves' = bend valves? If the timing belt breaks they ALWAYS bend valves, 100% of the time. Sometimes they will run ok afterward and you might think you dodged a bullet, but then a few thousand miles later the head drops off a damaged valve and the whole engine implodes...

That would be just my luck like. Well it's at the garage should find out tomorrow what the damage is. Considering going down the second hand head route but not sure. See what the lad recommends like as he knows what's what. Cheers for reply.

sounds like you motor may have turned over several times while belt had failed, one thing thats not binding, is when you remove head, if it hasnt run since, is to check the piston tops for valve kisses, thats one place to start, other than that, perhaps change out all valves, and lifters, check cam for damage.

Seriously, if the timing belt broke, you need to pull the head and replace any valves that touched the pistons. If the garage says otherwise, you should not have them work on your car.

Also, while it may seem like 'luck' it is not. If you buy a VW diesel car you really should not drive it until you KNOW the timing belt has been changed. You either park it and do the timing belt or drive the one trip to the mechanic to have the timing belt done. If you drive it anywhere else and it breaks, that's just your own fault, not luck.

shady deal. sale. while ultimately its you responsibility for esp a timing belt; at sale it would have been very neighborly and proper for salesman to let you know of needs of car your purchasing. better for many is to install a new timing belt. assy before sale. even better is to keep up on maintenance schedule and belt and other work being kept up on, and not a belt failing for how long before he decided to unload a rather simple fix on to you, not fixed. no taking it back now. i mean theres small claims court, but it wont get you back original motor. maybe theres other work that needs attention.

Bought car cheap off a young lad. Full service has had 3 belts in past. Should have had a new one on last but a know the garage it's been to and it wouldn't be me taking it there. A normally always cheats belt firstly this is the first time I have not and hey ho I end up here. My fault indeed. I can get a complete head off a good source with everything in good working order for £80. Then the price of head gasket kit and me mate will do work for £100.

If you can get a good head that cheaply it's a no brainer! Around here I'd be looking at 3-5x the price .

the head your planning to pull off, im sure is worth quite a bit; youll have to strip head, and get seats re-cut, to accept new valves. new valve assemblies, including springs, locks, and lifters. cam may be good. put intake/exhaust back on, and itd be good to go,

The lad at garage said it's jumped one tooth on the timing. Has plenty comprehension and sounded ok when he cracked it. Getting timing done and new belt today. So a wait on his call see what he says. But a think am defiantly getting me mate to do the head replacement as it's from a good source so will be a good head as stated. All in a be looking at around £220/£250 for parts and labour and getting new head skimmed.
Cheees for help advice and comments. Seems a good forum. Last one a never got one reply on all 3 post I posted. Thanks all
