Hi
I have -90 mk2 golf that used to be petrol and its replaced with 1z diesel.
How can i get the rev gauge to work?
I looked at that link and the circuit board is different in my car.
The diesel tach gets its signal from the alternator - there's a "W" terminal on a proper diesel alt that is connected to one of the field windings in the alternator. It is a much higher frequency signal than a gasser tach expects, like around 10:1.
There's a few ways you can go:
- install a diesel cluster
- buy a Dakota Digital box to convert the diesel tach signal to something the gasser tach can understand
- rig up an alternative pickup for the RPM signal - there's some examples of that approach around on the forum
