Hi All--I have a little dilemma. Went in for a smog check on my 98 TDI and it failed because EGR readiness will not set. At this point I'm a little stumped. I've driven the car about 500 miles since replacing the clutch, (battery disconnected) including a trip of almost 200 miles the other day with some spirited on-ramp accelerations.
The car is chipped (no details, I purchased it that way). That being said, it has passed twice before with no problems. Vagcom shows the egr cycling on and off. So I'm assuming it and the N-18 valve is functioning properly. I also used a mityvac to manually check the EGR and it starts opening at 10" of vacuum and opens fully by 15"
My coolant temp is at 183* according to vagcom. All my vacuum hoses are properly connected and in good condition.
If anyone has experienced this or could give me any hints on what to do, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks in advance for any and all help
Mike
There is no readiness on your car.

Actually the model year 98 and newer does. and Ca. smog does check for it. 97 and older does not require smog check. So--I'm still trying to figure it out, any help would be appreciated.
Found out the problem--faulty MAF. New MAF, readiness set, passed smog--good day
