Looking for the relay and/or plug/socket/pigtail.
Sorry I should have specified I'm looking for an idi relay.
Might just pimp my glowplug on a switch. Anyone know if any starter solenoid would work? I've got a few old starters sitting around and free is always better then cheap...
Yeah I read that and it's what's I was going to fallow. I was just wondering if any starter solenoid would work. Like the tube style found in most automotive starters vs the kind he used.
Generally the solenoid on the starter pushes a gear forward into the flywheel and at the backside connects across to send the needed voltage to the starter motor. I guess it would work for the same purpose as a smaller and simpler relay. Every time you hit the switch you would get a honking click out of it and I would venture a guess that would necessitate a sound mounting to some part of the car. Isn't a simple Ford relay about 12 bucks? I can't remember what I paid for mine when I pimped the GP's on my 81. I do get looks from people in the parking lot at times when I hit the key and it goes clunk then nothing for a while. I am sure they are thinking, poor guy, that old beater just doesn't want to start for him. Then about 12 seconds later it roars to life with that diesel clackity clack. Love it.
I can probably get you a stock glow plug socket and wires.
I save them for converting gassers to diesels.
A switch will work, but it's nice to not have to push a button.
