So I have a used VW MK1 or MK2 (Garret T3 i beleive) turbo with the trapezoidal flange and the exhaust manifold, but no bolts or studs and nuts to mount the turbo to manifold. Does anyone know what the thread size and pitch is? and where i can buy these bolts or studs/nuts. the are def. larger than the ehaust manifold to block studs... I tried browsing Parts Place, GAP, and autohausaz for them with no success...
Anyone know? i guess i can take the whole turbo to my local fastenal...but that would kind of be a pain. Ive looked in my Bentley and done some searching on here and cannot seem to find any info one what bolts i need.
Check out Partsbase.org. They have all the diagrams that list all the part numbers including the bolts and things.
I often find the dealership is the best source for fasteners as long as your dealership parts department manager isn't a jerk. They can get you how exact correct fasteners at reasonable prices most of the time. Like most VW bolts have a specific shoulder, a pointed end to make assembly easier, a certain head shape that spreads the load out better and an anti corrosion coating. Whereas if you go to a generic fastener place you just get something close...
IIRC they are M10-1.5 x 50mm or they are m12-1.75x50mm...It has been a while. If you have any m 10 or m 12 bolt and enough energy to lift the turbo up and screw the bolt in you could find out which size and pitch it is. Then with some careful measuring you could get a guess as to how long would be needed.
