So I bought an 82 caddy about 1.5 years ago with a seized n.a. 1.6 and a supposed n.a. hydraulic 1.6 crate engine was included. Pretty sure the only reason the dumbass had it listed as a crate engine was because it was banded to a crate. I pulled the valve cover and found all tbe exhaust lifters weren't in contact with the camshaft. Anyway, it had this pump on it and I'm not sure what its off of. When I ran the pn it says it was off an Audi 80 but we don't have the diesels here in the states. The pump has a manufacturing date of 98 stamped on the side. I would like to use it as a candidate for a potential Giles rebuild and throw it on my new eco. Any input would be much appreciated
Non-turbo pump with electronic advance lockout - probably from an early 1990s engine. I do notice that the metal on the pump top does not appear to have aged the same as the pump body - gotta wonder about that.
The lack of LDA would stop me from sending it to Giles - chances are it runs fine the way it is given how clean it looks. The $$/hp ratio of souping up an NA pump versus putting a turbo on the engine is not in favour of upgrading the pump, plus a hopped up NA pump has very little value to the market in general.
Perfect, thank you for you input, looks like its going back on the shelf. So a 1.9td pump would be ideal?
It's normal for the pump top to look different than the base, I'm pretty sure it's a different composition.
The best pump to send to Giles is the one from your engine from the car you plan on keeping a while.
The discoloration may also be from the service it just had, they cleaned the entire thing so it looks nearly new
