Hi all, I have a 1z tdi [90 hp] engine fitted in my mk1 Golf you guys seem to know your stuff when it comes to tuning these engines, Can any body give me a list of bolt on mods that would improve the performance and what power I'm likely to get with these mods

many thanks Baller

Is it the electronic pump controlled via computer? Or have you gone mechanical?
We need details

. Nozzles, turbo, intake and exhaust. The same rules apply for every engine. Move more air more effectively, keep the heat down, and inject as much fuel as possible. = POWER.
The 1Z has the stupid tiny good for no more than 15psi GT-15. First step would be to replace that really, its a SUPER bottleneck.

Has the standard fly by wire pump on it, If I was to replace the turbo with another which would be a fairly easy replacement and what car do I look out for that would have the better turbo fitted to it, same goes for injectors and pump

Was the engine originally equipped with an automatic or standard tranny?
Any turbo that will suit your needs would be the best choice. All other 8v turbo diesel manifolds bolt up to this head, but will pretty much only work with the turbo they are desgined for. Nothing will be a complete bolt up affair.

In my AHU, I found the nozzles to be a quick easy way to increase your getup & go.

Replacing the nozzles is good because you get bigger and cleaner nozzles in there, I feel that even getting your old ones cleaned up would probably do wonders.
Nozzles and a Tune are #1 and #2 if you have a stock Electronic Pump.

Check out the evry mod. You get a noticeable increase for the cost of a resistor, a switch and a bit of wiring. Best bang for your buck by far!

Most of the parts for the best "bang for buck" upgrade for the 1z / AHU are probably available in a junkyard (breaker) near you.
You can fit the VNT based induction system (all turbo related inlet / exhaust parts / oil lines and supports), ECU and N75 from an AFN code engined golf.
Then score a 1749VA turbo from a passat or audi a4 tdi (PN - 038145702G and get a tune (w / 3 bar map) and some nozzles and you'll be good for 150hp or more.
Most of this is plug and play.
For the amount of money you'd spend - especially since this is all considered junk by this point in the UK - there's no config that I can think of that comes close for the money.

Which generation passat are we talkin' here?
