My daily driver is my 92 Jetta Ecodiesel with ACN and governor mod. It has enough power to get up the short hills around here no problem. I haven't driven the the 81 Caddy in a while and took it out a few days ago and noted that while it does not have the acceleration of the Jetta, it feels like it has more low end torque pulling away from a stop. Is this true for VW NA idi vs turbo idi? Going up hill is another story in the Caddy, I have to down shift to 3rd to get up the same hill on the FF tranny. 5th is only usable on the flats.
Funny in 3 days out with the Caddy, 2 people have approached me and asked if I wanted to sell and a 3rd stopped to strike up a conversation. It just seems to attract a lot of attention. Should I worry about theft? How much should I insure it for?
I tend to agree with the more low end on the NA, stock-ish stuff anyway.
It's one reason I still run my AAZ sans-turbo, better low end and
enough mid and upper to keep up with traffic OK.
Insuring old cars is a tricky business, bout all I can say is document everything if it's worth more than three or five K
and talk to your insurance folks about it before something bad happens and they try and give you $1500 bucks.
Put the Jetta wheels on the caddy, and ballast it to equal the Jetta. Most of that low end edge will be gone.
