Is the VAG-Com software for laptops any good. Will it set the timing on a TDI? Is any of it better than the rest?
I have a new to me TDI Jetta that I need to set the timing on and hate giving the stealership any money.
TIA
Jason
Yes, it is excellent. The actual Ross-tech cable and software is worth much more than the added cost over a generic cable and free version of Vag-com.
Vag-com is the best scan tool for VW and Audi. So much more intuitive the VW's own scanners. When we have weird problems we will use Vagcom to diagnosis.
vag-com it is.. i have some weird vag program thru a palm piolet..good 10 year old... does not make a "graph" but gives you the points to look for on the graph in book..
but if its for a mk4... it really sux balls... me and theman pulled his bumper to pull the headlight to getto the spring clip someone installed with headlight out last to manipulate his pump timming.... turns out retarded to advance... going up on graphis advance for those who did not know... but unlike a dial caliper nothing to read unless running.. with key on nope no work... and sets off check engine light if you do... so start.. look.. shut off turn.. so on.. sux balls..
but we think it got some balls back now.. did belt job last weekend.. worked round stupid boost pipe.. but unless pipe removed no way to set timming.. it was only like 4pts retarded via graph.. but ran like crap vs before.. no idea what it used to be...
