Ive also heard hockey pucks work good to between spring and spring seat.
I'm about 2000 miles from the nearest ice hockey puck
,
but still curious if the early mk3 springs are stiffer and a plug and play in a mk2.
My suspicions are that the rear springs are so soft to keep both wheels on the tarmac if you lift off the throttle (gas pedal) whilst flying through a tight bend. Old Peugeot Gti could be bit of a *** in that situation.
Yes mk2 and mk3 rear springs just swap in. I used VR6 mk3 springs with the hockey puck in my 91 Golf. I went through strut mounts pretty quick and it was terrible to drive when I wasn't loaded, but I could haul a complete TD in the hatch without bottoming out. B3 is the same. I've heard B3 wagons are the stiffest. I'd assume B4 is the same but I'm not 100% on that.

Hi Ho! Hi Ho! Off to the scrapyard I go!
Thanks for your time and help. I will let you know how I get on.
The backside down stance was due to collapsed and rusted to dust "OEM"
(my arse!) spring hats fitted 5 years ago. So in went the twenty year old VW items (which still look almost new!) from the mk3 struts from the scrapyard . There is a lot of utter sh1te being sold out there, so take anything which claims to be of an OEM standard with scepticism. The rotted ones had VW part numbers stamped on them, which fooled me at the time.
Mk3 rear suspenion fits fine, but the Mk3 Gti stuff has shorter springs, about 340mm long. My springs on the Mk2 are 350mm which I presume is standard.

350mm soft spring VS. 340mm stiff spring..
i bet the mk3 springs compress LESS, and i bet the installed height is the same, or a C#NT hair taller...
ive always took and installed Jetta GLI springs on all my Golfs/GTIs
It's near Halloween and the dead are rising. Surely you know this guy! Follow the I'm back thread. Long time member that pulled a disappear on us lately.
