i'd like to find a mkIII golf, 4 dr, solid to moderate body, but with no motor, a blown motor, bad clutch, something like that. hopefully it was someone's daily driver and the maintenance has been kept up, but the motor let go and now someone wants to get rid of it.
i've found these kinds of cars before without a problem but now that i need one i can't seem to locate anything. maybe you've seen one at the side of the road or have a friend who has one he needs to get out of the driveway.
local to south western ontario would be nice.
bonus if its a CL or TD with 9.4" brakes.

kombi: camper
mkIII: beater
different purposes

i'm sick of punishing my rabbit.
(i knew it was only a matter of time before you'd be all over this one  )

they are land barges...everything i don't want in a summer car, but what i
need for a commuter...
quiet
comfortable
extra weight/reinforcement yields a safer vehicle in a crash than a rabbit (i know i can avoid almost anything in the rabbit, but a few times this year i've been caught in white-outs, and freezing rain... potential for unavoidable multi-car pile-ups)
consistantly working heater/wipers!!
but the parts are still cheap, they are becoming more abundant in junkyards, and many parts i currently have will interchange.
i don't need it to handle or be fun, just get me there comfortably. i might even put a stereo in this one

mkI vs. mkIII are completely different worlds.
if i find a suitable mkIII i can get the rabbit off the road and give it the attention it needs. it will then be a summer car instead of a year-rounder.

You are correct, the MKIII's are land barges !
A 1.6L NA seems pretty peppy in a MKII,yet you need a 1.9L TD in the MKIII to move it along.Where you realy notice it is when swapping from a MKIII to an older MKII chassis.I have built performance 1.9L's for a MKIII that were later swapped into a MKII,and it felt like you gained 20HP just due to the weight difference.

wyldman: hehe well going from a rabbit to a mkIII will be quite the adjustment for me then! tbh if i didn't have a girlfriend i'd stick it out in the rabbit, this a more of a safety/comfort thing for highway driving, especially in the winter.
monday mornings are busy, but i'll be in touch soon about former-TDs.
edit: you also found me on vhortex, i sent you a couple messages over there.

It happened because I read his other post,on another board, where he mentioned he was looking for a 4 Dr MKIII.I missed the part about the Golf.Anyways,we may have him converted,as he may still be interested in the Jetta.
