Hi all
Newbie from New Zealand, I dont think pre mk 4 diesel golfs are that common in nz,so look foward to surprising a few gassers once i pick up a few tips from the forum.
My first question is ,
Where is the identification plate or stamp on my Mk 3 Cl.
I need to know exactly what im dealing with before i fiddle
Hi again, thought id put some pics on of our little rattler.
Also i found a WVWZZZ..... number on the firewall, is this the original chassis number ?
it doesnt seem to have the normal plate that most cars over here have, regardless of being imported or nz new

?
the reason im asking is i dont really know what type of model i have or what engine & turbo it is, im not a car novice by any stretch but i brought from work as traded,so didnt get any info.

ok after some serious googling, i have discovered that the 1HZ code after the WVWZZZ is a big clue,so how does this convert into some of the lingo i see on the forums , ie A2,3,4 etc.
Your Golf would be an A3 (made between 1993-1998), with (I believe) an AAZ-code motor (The 1.9TD, not a TDI.)
Do you guys have a 17-character VIN on your cars? Because that's what this is.
Here's a decoder: http://www.abvwc.org.uk/vw_vin.htm
comes out as a Mk 3/Vento, built in wolfsburg .....
Is this good
Comes out as a Vento?
Hmm...
This is odd, as the Vento is the same as a JETTA, not a Golf.
I'm wondering if the VIN plate came off of a Jetta or something, and your car has a different VIN.

nah its ingraved into the firewall, its probably just the website decoder playing tricks.
