I am looking for timing tutorial on VW suppiled 2.4L inline six cylinder Turbo diesel motor in Volvos 760 960 940. Any links on Camshaft, crankshaft and fuel pump timings would be great. I will really appreciate How tos and timings sections from workshop manual.
Please help.
Thanks!

You absolutely must get adequate torque on the crank bolt, or your engine will be destroyed.
set crank and cam@TDC,
tension belt w/water pump
tighten cam pulley
set pump .95-1.0
tighten rear cam bolt
be sure the pump belt is preloaded int the drive direction when you tighten it down, and that the cold start device is bypassed by rotating at the little block on the end of its cable.
Thanks man!! really appreciate it!
Is there any way to do it without the dial gauge?!
If you buy a $400 diesel timing light.
If you are really clever, it might be possible by delivery valve spill timing.
If you line up all the marks, 95% chance it will be close enough to run, then you can go by trial and error.
the dial gauge is worth it for the repeatability.
with the vac pump, and injector pipes removed, is easiest.
I'm pretty sure the dial gauge for anything with a VE injection pump can be made to work.
No one has the dial gauge here they all do it by the trial and error method. I guess I will have to import one.
Thanks...
Yes making one should be easy... I will get on that!!
This forum should have everything I need... Thanks people.
