Goetze rings--made in Turkey?

When did this start happening? My brother ordered some stuff from gowesty for a re-ring, and this is what we found when we opened the box. Disappointing, to say the least.
Anyone else gotten Turkish-made Goetze rings? Or is this a brand-new phenomenon?

Ya, also the continenntal timing belt I got from Rabbitparts after the website said "Made in Germany". When I got the belt it had "Made in Mexico" stamped on it, after no reply from them about a return/refund for false advertising I chunked it.

Why? If the belt has the Continental name on it, it went through the same strict tests and procedures. Whats with people now-a-days? Mexico and China are for some reason not as good as other countries?

The rings I just installed said made in turkey. They were packaged well, they looked as good as rings can look and they installed perfectly measuring direct to spec. I don't have a problem with it unless they turn out to have a short lifespan. Only time will tell. AT LEAST THEY AREN"T PROTHE RINGS!!!

I have issues with parts made in China for a number of reasons, environmental regulations, human rights, trade imbalance, tariff structure, totalitarian regime etc as well as qc but I try to buy parts from Mexico, it's close by, their economy supports our economy, promote stability on your borders and the quality is most often very high.

Conti belts have been made in mexico for quite some time- maybe 10 years now.
Here's part of my problem with Chinese parts....Meyle tie rod made in Germany costs me $20 in 2005. Meyle tie rod made in China costs me $25 now. German cost to produce $10. Chinese cost to produce $2. Who is stealing my money? At least Prothe's prices reflect his sources
The other part is that my own experience with their steel shows me it's not hard enough for critical parts like bearings. Maybe it will get there eventually.

I see this with the stuff I sell for a living. It is more of a mindset with the Chinese made stuff that they are not motivated to strive for excellence. The bolts I sell from China for example grade 8 is grade 8 across the world. In China they make their bolts with the expectation to hit the minimum requirements of grade 8. Most if measured do not quite make it, but it is real close...they see it as a level to strive for, not a bottom of the barrel like I do as an american.

Well, I suppose Turkey is like the Mexico of Europe, from what I've heard, they're in similar positions, economically. I guess the Goetze decided to have their factory employ Turks in Turkey instead of Turks in Germany as was probably the case before.
A lot of VW parts are made in Mexico, because the Volkswagens themselves are made there and the suppliers often locate the parts manufacturing near the VW plant in the city of Puebla to make the logistics easy. I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same way with Turkey and they have an auto industry going now. Those Ford Transit things are made there.
I'm not a huge fan of China (as in the PRC) for the reasons mentioned. People seem to forget that they were
the Red Menace not long ago. And, while they certainly aren't the communist state they used to be, it's still an oppressive authoritarian regime and one that benefits greatly from their export industries. I also think a culture of corruption pervades there where you have factory managers and suppliers cutting corners to save money and pocketing the difference and that's why you still see so many quality issues, particularly on stuff they sell to westerners. I think there domestic market stuff has to be better since people there probably know how to weed through all the cheats.

yes and no. I want to bash them, but I also want it to stay clean enough my kids could read it, that is why I refrain from telling people how I really feel. If we all can convey what we know and feel and do it in a way that isn't too brash, go ahead. I will just cut out the stuff that is too mean LOL

Been fighting the parts quality battle both privately and professionally for years now. It's a *** to put it bluntly.
You can't say parts made in X are find and parts made in Y are fine.
Nor can you say brand X of a given part is made in Y, as it changes from time to time.
I'm reduced to searching the internet for a given part and application and manufacturer for
anyone yelling about it, and sorting the results by date to try and watch for current reviews.
It's depressing, I only partly work on all these old cars for fun, and it isn't fun having
to do the same job over four times as often because I can't get any stinking parts
of quality.
As an aside, more expensive old cars still manage to have better quality parts somehow.
A given suspension or steering part for an Porsche from the same company is pretty routinely
better quality and often still made in the old country compared to that same part from the
same company for a Jetta or what have you. That too is annoying. Sachs/Boge dampers
have been a good example of stuff going to crap in the last few years.
Buyer beware, in a big way.

I should mention that my feelings about the PRC government
do not extend, at all, to Chinese people in general.
What really bothers me is that our government and corporations are so complacent in letting the Chinese government do what it wants, that we (meaning Google, etc.) do things like assist them in their censorship efforts.
