AAZ no power

Hey there first post! I've searched but didn't find anything I was looking for so I thought I would ask.
I just put together my car two weeks and it has no power down low, I mean like 1000-2000 rpm there is nothing at all and then once I hit boost it just wants light the tires up, I bought the car off an car auctioneer and didn't drive it at all till I finished it. The lack of power is getting frustrating on the way home when I got it running I accidentally spun the wheels three times. Also when I come to a rolling stop like a light changing I have to slow down till I can slide it into first because second gear is to low. Any who I was wondering if anyone can help me out, I thought of trying a different timing but the person who rebuilt the pump said .95mm should be perfect. Maybe it's something else I'm not sure as I don't know alot about these motors.
Car specs:
AAZ
K14
Performance Diesel Injection Pump fueled for 20 psi
Not sure of the tranny code but it runs at 2560rpm at 100km/h
Picture of under the hood.

I believe that is called turbo lag. If you can install a bigger downpipe and exhaust system. Also some fuel adjustments to get more fuel on the bottom end. If you are really up for more down low you could go to another turbo, VNT. Hard to tell what you have there without seeing how you are driving it. Read up and you'll probably find what you need to know.
You have power, you just down have it where you want it.

I had a AAZ as my first car about 7 years ago, I remember it had almost no turbo lag. Maybe it had the K03 on it but I was too 16 to even care. Also the car has a new down pipe maybe 2"+ and it's straight piped. Don't the VNT's have some adjustable turbine wheel system? How would I even run that on my car.

Yep, go to the FAQ section on "how to make your 1.9aaz a faster car"

Maybe your wastegate is stuck open. A k14 should spool up very quick, with very little lag.

Not as quick as a k03, but not as slow as the k24/t3 though

. 2000 rpm spool sounds about right, the k03 spools off idle, and the k24 is up around 2500.. so yeah 2000 sounds right.

Figure out what turbo you have an check the obvious first.
With my Giles pump and 3" DP I had 5lbs around 2,000. It didn't start running good until 7+psi. I had a K24 though.

very carefully.. VNTs are not a BOLT ON AND GO upgrade for us. our engines have no native way to control the vanes.

I have a K14, been dicking around with the car and messing around with boost. It's more manageable now before it was either nothing or spinning the wheels. I think I need to retime my Giles pump and maybe get a larger downpipe.
Lastly while I was talking to Giles a few weeks ago he said the bottom plug on the pump doesn't have to be plugged in. It's clearly not the shut off valve but what is that for. I searched and couldn't find it.

A friend of mine has a VNT 20? in his newer TDI it's my understanding hes making large power as it would fly by my 24v MK4 every time. I think he said if he boost it to hard/ shift's to hard he snaps an axle and hes gone about 7 now. I know the power potential is there but I just want to be able to take off from a light

Rev it up and drop the clutch

The power difference between on boost and off boost on a Giles pump is pretty crazy on an AAZ with a small turbo. There is a good chance that what you are experiencing is completely normal.
You said that you bought it at an auction. Did you ever drive it as a stock 1.9 AAZ engine?

i just recently installed a VNT20 on my 1.6TD, its not quite tuned yet tho, so i havent broken any axles/transmissions as of yet..
even if you just TUNE your existing pump better, there is power to be gained.. i tuned/built my pump myself, and it makes really good power for a stock pump. ive got a 10mm Peugeot injection pump that will be going on as soon as i get the turbo working as i want it to..

Power is and isn't my problem. My car has nothing I mean nothing I think it actually goes slower if I put the hammer down at 1000-2000 rpm and then all of the sudden the boost kicks in and it goes like hell. I have a Giles pump and I guess that's the nature of it.
I had a AAZ about 6-7 years ago but I barely remember how it drove and the car I bought(now) was from an auctioneer the only time I drove it before the whole rebuild was from the front of my warehouse to the back. My problem isn't that bad but in stop and go traffic I'm either lighting up the tires or clutch to get it moving

Lastly my rad fan was ON ALL THE TIME/ on full speed as soon as I hit 70 degree's. I put a toggle switch in my car and it actually seems like it has more power down low :O I only did it a few hours ago so maybe that was my problem. That poor 60amp? alt was probably struggling. I would see my volt gauge hit below 12v when they kicked on now its 13.9~ with them off

You probably have a wiring issue somewhere, most likely a bad ground

Little bit of an update:
I messed around with the car and found the injection pump fuel line was a little chewed so it turns out it was getting half air and half fuel

. So I just snipped the end and put a gear clamp on. Now it drives 100% better! Power down low and even more power up top and the idle is alot better.

Good find. Thanks for the update
