Title says it all--is there any chance they're cross compatible? Need to redo the headliner in my bunny, and I figured a mk2 style would be an upgrade, and be simpler as well. Anyone tried it?
Considering the roof lines are nearly completely different, it would probably be a lot of work unfortunately.
It is definitely not a bolt in affair.
Okay, that's honestly what I expected, that it wouldn't work; thought I'd ask anyway just to make sure.
CrazyAndy---that was an excellent thread! The more pics, the better, I always say. I think we need to make it a sticky link in the FAQ/how-to section.
I would honestly prefer the earlier style headliner fabric headliner. The headliners can be re-lined but once the moulded one starts to crack, I think it's done.
I have a friend who does headliners, it looks easy. He uses a toilet cleaning brush attached to an electric drill to knock all the residual foam off the cardboard backing. The foam-backed fabric is available at Jo Ann Fabrics. Use the 3M heavy spray adhesive for "heavy headliners," that's exactly what it says on the can, I think NAPA has it. It's like $25 for one can but the light duty stuff does not last.

Thanks for the praise! I made it a point to take as many pics a spossible for visual learners. Although I would think about using the spray adhesive that bajacalal mentioned; my headliner is starting to pull off where the cardboard bends are. Still was a lot of fun and lasted bretty well for about 2 or so years.
