Ok so i fired up the rabbit TD this morning to take it to get my battery tray welded in when i go to pop the hood i saw oil spewing out of the turbo so i check my dipstick and i had no oil in there. Im thinking blown seal, its a K04 turbo, in the mean time i have an NA setup i can put on to make due but what options for a turbo do i have?

Any vw 8v exhaust manifold with the turbo attached will physically bolt up to your motor.
This is a good opportunity to think of how you could change the motor for the better. Do you want better low end torque or top end power.. could step it down to a k03, or step up to a T3..

Well i built the car for MPG's, i wouldnt mind if it pulled alittle harder on acceleration, what T3 should i go with i see them on ebay from around $100-200

From my readings, I have found that sustaining higher boost while cruising can actually be very beneficial for MPG.. I think you would have tons of fun stepping down to a k03. You will make boost pretty much right off idle, and have boost throughout your rpm range. Will you be taking the engine much over 4000rpms.. if not then you need not worry about high rpm flow capability.

Unfortunately im looking at the K03's and they mount differently to the manifold, i kinda want something that i can just bolt on and go.

if you were to get one with a manifold it would be a bolt on and go type ordeal. But fully bolt on and go is better. I am unaware what mates up to a k04 manifold. sorry.

350.00 at the g pop shop, then they open it and it grows if you need hard parts. If everything is reusable 350. plus shipping from them.

How's your block pressure?
Vacuum pump leaks filling the block with air?
Block vent on the front of the block?

new vaccum hoses, i guess it was good because it operated the brakes and they stop well.. Only thing i can figure is the turbo is about 25 years old, as with my IP seals go bad over time, i think it was just cold enough and there was enough thermal shock on the seals in the turbo to have a blow out, the block is fine. Once i get my garage cleaned out ill have the car inside converting it to NA till i decide on a turbo.

So i finally got around to pulling the turbo off the car and to my surprise the turbo that was on the car was a K24 triple K turbo, ive never heard of a k24 turbo, is it any good and is it worth rebuilding?
