Sorting out the ladies Peugeot 106 1.5d, lovely little plodding thing it is, 65mpg and 160,000 miles.
But the most bizzarre quirk of these engines are the valves clearances (lashes) closing up, giving poor starting rough running and lack of compression. "So what" say you mechanics, exhaust valves often do this.
But being french, therefore illogical, the inlet valves are the ones that close up. This was the case on ours, exhausts perfect at factory clearance. Inlets, zero clearance. It is a first for me, but a common thing on these little engines apparently.
Bugger! I've just burnt the bread.......
Did it damage the valves or will they adjust out?
It adjusts out ok assuming you can find the right shims, (probabably the same as early diesel vw's, but I was more suprised at it being inlet valves.
same old , few diesel engines do this that i have come across inlets fine but exhausts valves and seats seam to wear and the clearances close up ,smaller shims
