How long do your engines last before they typically start to have signs of wearing out?
I replaced all the bearings in my engine and honed it because it was fairly low mileage (200000km) and the bores had essentially no wear. The head was also completely gone through. With regular oil changes I'm just curious how long I'm in for before I have to take it apart again
quarter of a million miles is easy to do in a VW diesel..
half of a million miles would be easy to do if you took super good care of it and did all your service intervals by the book..
I had mine done with ARP hardware.

not trying to be rude, but what does the ARP hardware have ANYTHING to do with the actual longevity of the engine? the bottom end is gonna wear out at "X" rate, no matter how the head is held down.. the OP asked about engine longevity, not what studs you used in your build..
the pistons, rings, and bores dont care if there ARP studs, or cheap, PROTHE stretch bolts..
the engine is still gonna wear out the same..
BUT!
crappy pistons/rings, and crappy bearings WILL have an effect on how fast an engine wears out..

Well it won't fly apart as easy but it'll sure wear the same.
If you just went through everything. Should be good for another 2-300,000km. If you used quality pieces.. If not you could be back in to it in less than 50k.
I would have asked which engine he had.......
Having parted out a bunch of AAZs, none actually wore out (up to 400k+km). Most lost timing due to crank nose failure. The only thing I see a lot of is pitting on the pistons from bad injectors. Bearings are clean, bores are clean, camshafts sometimes have wear (probably from wrong oil) but not enough that the driver would even notice. Head I'm sure could use the usual after 300k+ km, but that is almost a maintenance item. The Mexican MK3s they come out of on the other hand..... they get lighter with every drive! Miles away from the German made b3s....

i avoid "3" cars like the plague..
its easy to tell where a VW is made, look at the first character of the VIN.
W cars = german
1 cars = USA
3 cars = MEXICO/BRAZIL
german cars were built the best, have the best interior, and the best wiring. well... there just the best!
american cars were OK. they had decent interiors, and OK wiring. ive had zero issues with my USA cars that were not easily fixable..
mexican cars have pretty crappy interiors, and if there was a way to cut corners on a VW, they accomplished it.. the mexican cars ive owned almost always have wiring problems, along with just not being built as good as the other VWs..
