Would a SAAB intercooler of this size be worth using in my 1.6 TD? Is it too small to bother with, or will it be enough to increase horsepower?
Even better...that particular saab unit also comes in the BlackStone all aluminum version which is even more efficient... If I ditch the AWIC setup on the rabbit in favor of air-air, I'll probably go for this for now...the saab unit is very good

if youre car has a/c, try to massage the condensor foreward 2 or so inches and squeeze the intercooler inbetween the condensor and the radiator.
if you dont have a/c then just put it right in front of the radiator.
Thats the other nice benefit to the SAAB unit...its compact and yet still efficient...will fit just about anywhere you want it. The above suggested have all been done and work well. What platform is this going into?
I personally in a MK1 would install mine towards the passenger side of the car in front of the radiator (shorter tab mount for NA diesel) and sandwich it in between the core and the radiator. The Probe GT unit i used for a few years worked very well there...
Other option, in MK1 or MK2 , install in between the drivers side end of the cylinder head and add a hood scoop or relocate battery, duct cold air from air dam or underneath or...add hood scoop
MK2 specific...the radiator is "slated" and with A/C removal there is ALOT of room in there to nicely mount a unit and duct all the air you'd ever want to it...even better...add an oil cooler while your at it
Lots of options...lots of different ways depending on what your goals are cometically as well as performance/efficiency wise
