ok i have a oppertunity to make some coin.. 2 85 grumman kub vans.. sadly they have ford temp engines in them... and subframes and all kinds of goofy crap...
originally i suspected they took a vw kubvan.. added a ford engine... NOPE... complete redesign...
guy really wants a diesel one.. he is sick of his 17mpg.. i could in theory build new mounts.. build a complete new set of axels to mate vw to ford suspention... but in a way... id hate to mod a odd duckling how many of those did they make... kinda wanna keep it ford powered.. even if he needed to import a engine..

The engines that Ford used to power the Escorts and Tempos in the 80s was made by Mazda. IIRC, not a bad engine if you can find the parts to keep it going.

Yea he is coming down a day this week. I just learned that vw shim disk fit that motor so I'm gonna adjust the valves. Timing setting is also the same as vw and the Pump tools work. I thought it seemed off I will check that also.

the old tempos had 2.3L 4 bangers.
the old escorts had 1.9L 4 bangers.
both built by ford..

In Euroland we got the mk3 Escorts (first of the transverse engined fwd one) with a 1.6 diesel engine. There then came a 1.8 which came with a few subtle differences.

These were Ford engines, we did not have the Mazda tie up over here. The engine was actually fitted to a number of Ford vehicles and later wore a turbo in some applications including the Focus model.
The block to gearbox bellhousing bolt pattern was the same as the Petrol engines so that should match the Ford 2.3 SOHC petrol engines you got over in the states iirc.(engine called Pinto in UK, not the same as the Pinto car you got).
Can get more info if you want. Just let me know.
