Yesterday I was looking at a 2006 Jetta TDI at a VW dealers lot, we started it up and there was quite a lot of bluish smoke from the tailpipe.
Even the salesman was surprised. This Jetta only had 104000kms on it. My 03 Jetta TDI has 245000kms and it also smokes on cold startup,
same amount of bluish smoke.
Others on this forum have said they have similar experiences and it could be bad glow plugs.
Need a VW tech's advise on this issue before I go any further.
Sounds like they are both run hard, valve stems/piston rings worn, if it is severe, then possible turbo - oil consumption issue. If a PD is doing that, I would steer clear, they are $$$ to fix right.
color of smoke??? white to grey tends to be unburnt fuel like bad glowplug.. but also smells like unburnt diesel too...
blue is usually oil smoke, not diesel, and usually smells of burning engine oil.
like was already stated tho,
valve seals and guides could be at fault.
so could the turbo seals..
Appreciate the input, I will stay away from that one and keep looking.
Thanks.
