Hey guys.. I was going to try and turbo my 1.6 NA Jetta.
I like Golf's a lot more so I found an awesome body for a new project. I want to swap the 1.8L gasser with a 1.9TD. 1990 Golf is the swap car and the donor is a 1996 Jetta 1.9TD.
So my question is will the 1.9TD engine fit into the 90 Golf without "too" much modification if any.. and also do I just swap "everything" under the hood, wiring loom, and the gas tank?
Strangely, this forum won't flame you for such a post.. They tend to just remind silent.
So I'll flame you Hahahah
You must search Luke.. It'll probably take you days or weeks to glean all of the possible info from this website. I did the same thing when I was new here
1990 1.8L Digifant II Gas Golf? 5 speed?
The swap should be one of the easiest around.
The mounts will line up, the fuel lines come up the passenger side and there is a return line to the tank as well, whatever clutch is on the 1.9 motor will fit in the original 90 transmission.
Your biggest problem will be lining up the exhaust.
TT makes a downpipe and exhaust system. I think that will be your only hurdle. Plus the gas tank on the MKIII holds about 2 extra gallons
So the MkIII tank will fit on the MkII?
