I am about to get a A3 jetta with 4 disc and ABS. I want to convert the rear discs to drum brakes, and after a little searching in Vag-cat, found that the rear spindles for drums are available with the fitting for the ABS speed sensor. Were those models even available with ABS and Rear drums. And i don't want to hear about why i want drums instead of discs.
I may have found out more. The Bentley shows ABS with drums. Anyone here in N.A. have ABS in their mk3 AHU Jetta?
Wait...You want to convert a car with 4-wheel disc brakes to rear drums? Can you explain why anyone should consider doing this? Ever?
Because i don't race or live in the mountains. Also- I,ve been a mechanic for more than 30 years now and don't really like working on my cars anymore than i have to. There fore having brakes that require WAAAAYYYY less maintenance makes me happy.
drums are more complicated, more prone to failure, harder and messier to work on.
Maybe.but if you only have to work on them every few years, who cares. Have you ever replaced rear discs on a jetta that has been in a few Montreal winters? If not, then you wouldn't know why i hate rear disc brakes so much
