as long as these have the same wrist pin height as a 1.6 piston, you could use these in a 1.6 engine with g60 h beam rods

the pin height is WAY different.. you can look at the pistons from the side and see that the 1.5 pin hole is alot farther down the side of the piston than on a 1.6
pistons would probably stick out of the block too far.

i guess it depends if 1.5s used the same rod length or not.

i think the 1.5 used some sort of shorter-than-a-1.6D-rod in the bottom end of the engine.
i think the 1.5 crank has smaller rod journals too for some reason.. im pretty sure that you have to keep the 1.5 rotating parts all matched up..

Custom rods could be made. My friends have rods made all the time for their Porsche's. Yes I know a lot of money right... Well from what he was saying, is the place they have them made is not too bad on price.

or, you could just throw a 1.5 crank, rods, and pistons into a 1.6 block, and not need custom rods.. it would still be a 1.5D, but with a tougher 1.6 block, so it would be just as good as a 1.6, yet yield a mpg or 2 more..

Unobtainium - I'll say!!!
ive got 2 sets of .5mm o/s 1.5 pistons, used, but they are still in very good shape. i was not aware of how rare they were till i started looking around, and learning a thing or 3 about VWs.

Larry at Import Parts in Medford is still rebuilding 1.5 liter motors but he probably would balk at the asking price. he would probably make a straight swap for a set of 1.6l 0.5mm os w/ rings for 1.5l 0.5mm os w/o rings (did for me anyways). Larry is a good guy.

amazing how many oregon users we have. and none of us have ever seen each other at shows or on I5 or anything..
this year, as many of the oregon users as possible should attend the VW shows..
i was lonely at Waterland this year.. i was one of the only diesels there, and probably the ONLY td car there..
it was sweet pulling up to the show tho, everybody was scoping my car out, people love the sound of the turbo..
I SHOULD HAVE ENTERED!!!
