Where did it break and why? Your best bet is to get a used cam for the same engine.

Old or defective belt, excessive belt tension, seized injection pump or camshaft, siezed intermediate shaft or accessories driven by the intermediate shaft (vacuum and oil pumps), foreign object under the belt. The list goes on. Please don't tell me yours broke, you're luck has not been good with this car...
QuickTD hook a brother up
Sorry, as lucrative as the crack business might be, I don't have the sort of luck necessary to succeed at it...

you would get quite a bit for it mind you... my 1986 1.6TD Jetta GL (no accessory options like PS or A/C manual everything) was appraised at $2260 canadian. Car had over 270'000 km!!!! Diesel has a nice resale value

ok so...after all the bloody knuckles and bad words...it finally runs....after a full rebuild...then cam broke...then once running the timming belt snapped....so i pulled the head pulled all the valves to check if any are bent....and replaced 3 cracked lifters.....valves were ok...suprisingly....and car finally runs like a champ....took it out for a spin....nothing long...it needs a sticker for the plate and insurance....but it finally runs!!!!
thanks

All depends on you; your threshold and how much you care that others are scorning the trail of smoke you might leave behind your car...
For your repair needs, also look up Gerry in Dorchester. Great guy and he knows VW Diesels as well as anyone in the area. gdewit at sympatico dot ca
