i definitely like my 1749.. it spools low, and hard.. and they are easy to find. and no need for a manifold.
my personal preference tho..

But there are different 1749 turbos. From what I gather the 1749vb is the one that most are using for more power, but upgrade that to a 17/22 on TDIs. This is the 1.6 IDI so I don't know what to think, hense me asking the "experts"

I would try to run no more than 30 but usually around 25-27psi...depending on how cool I can keep the air. My k24 is not laggy at all for me I don't think so if it is that good I would be happy. Do those fit the bill?

Boost is not that relevant measure, more important is how much air you can blow through engine. GT2052v from 2,5 V6 TDI Audi is good for 170hp@26psi, T4 gt2052v has slightly larger turbine side IIRC. Will spool quicker than stock T3/K24.

GT2359V or GT2260V for example if vnt is wanted.

How much power does the K24 support?
Thanks for the info looking forward to more and looking for those listed now:D

if you are trying to make 200+ hp out of a 1.6, then why not take the 1.6 out, sell it, and drop in atleast an AAZ? i would go balls out and get the TDI engine.. 200 hp is EASY to obtain with a TDI.. you damn near have to be god to break 200 hp with a 1.6...

I think 200 with a 1.6 will be fairly easy with the right turbo. I already have the giles pump.

you still gotta keep the head on it tho. and 250 hp (for all rights and purposes) is maxed out on a 1.6D
ive been told, that to venture into the 200 hp range, you have to be very good, and have DEEP pockets..
head studs will keep the head clamped down, but the head will still flex with enough boost crammed under it..
and even if you do get 200 hp, its gonna be no fun as a daily driver.. your gonna need a HUGE turbo to flow that much air.
compounds maybe?

Maybe I am wrong. Maybe not 200 but right there and reliable would work for me. Also as a daily and fun. I have put a ton into the car and am now kind of disappointed. An intercooler is the next move, but if the "big turbo lag" is what the car is now without the IC I could live with that. With the Giles pump and injectors, ported and polished head with undercut stainless valves I think with the addition of a VNT appropriately sized will be in the ball park. I also have a CIS manifold if needed, but will use my AKI 76 built mani with the VNT whenever I get to it...
Thanks MJF for those lists. I could find the GT 2359 reasonable, but the 2260 not at all. Also, would you know what cars these came from and if they had non VNT models with the same # to watch out for.

for a FUN daily driver.. the vnt 17 works great. but it wont directly fit on a mk2/3 car without a special passenger side mount.. kinda like that super expensive mount Shortysclimbin was trying to sell.. i think he would have sold some had they been reasonable about the prices..

GT2359V or GT2260V for example if vnt is wanted.
On these turbos what is the spool like? And they are both for around 200 hp? I have fuel to spare...I turned the boost pin to the aggressive side that basically put it back to where Giles had it and it looked like the boost gauge couldn't keep up with how fast it was building with my kkk k24. It also turns into a heat pump since it isn't intercooled now. I put it all back

I figure if I go VNT why settle for 140 or 150 or even the 176, might as well go big, but I daily this so it needs to spool as good as the K24 if possible. Or I probably will go with the 176 ish size

The VNT17 on a 1.6 will boost nicely up into the high 20s easily with even moderate fueling. Lag is minimal, giving some boost off idle, but not really spooling fully until 2000 rpms or so.
That sounds like heaven to me. The T3 doesn't even start to spool at 2000 rpm's with my foot buried in it.
Gotsta find me one of them.
