All this talk about crank and timing belt sprocket failure got me nervous (thanks all, just about had that anxiety condition under control!

). So had a look at mine, and it wobbles, just a bit, but enough to notice as well as the tensionner bounce around a bit.
I immediatly check the crank bolt to make sure it was still tight. Couldn't get it any tighter if I had Archimedes himself here. I don't recall every pulling the bolt in the first place....
Next I changed the pulley tentionner because I thought it might be a bit weak. Pulled one off a newer engine, same thing....
Then I changed the pulley/ballancer. Old one was rusty (93 w/400k) and changed it with a newer one, no rust, different dampening design, made sure mating surfaces were clean and flat. Same thing!
Where is the wobble (very slight, but there) coming from. Is this just the dampener doing it's job? Will the clutch pulley for the alt make a difference, or just help prevent future issues? (can someone give me a link to the clutch pulley I need? GEEBEE?) When I do my next timing belt, should I remove the crank sprocket and check it, or leave well enough alone?
I will add that both my water pump and PS pump have lateral shaft play, but no leaking, yet, so thos will have to be replaced.....
Thanks,
Ian
