Ignition Wiring Question MK2

I'm looking for the ignition wire (ON). I have a few scans of a bentley that someone on the forum generously made for me and email to me but the wiring diagrams aren't labelled as to what the wires are. Only the colours... If i knew what i was looking at im sure i could follow the diagrams like a map to see what each wire was but I was hoping someone here could give me some insight as to what im looking for.
These are coming off the ignition switch.
Red (large) - 12V?
Red Black (large) - Starter
Black Yellow Stripe (middle) - Head Lights
Black (smaller) - I think this goes to the fuel solenoid on the pump? This is where i tied in the "Ignition" wire but it still doesn't seem to work.
Brown Red (smallest) - Seat belt warning relay
I'm trying to wire a remote starter. There is only one wire that says "ignition" and another that says "starter"
I wired the "starter" wire to the solenoid on the starter (my new starter conveniently has two tabs on it). The ignition wire im guessing has to go to the black wire to the fuel pump.
It would appear i've done everything right but to program the remote to the starter you set it to program mode then the directions say the following,
"While in program mode, turn the key to the on position then immediately to the off position. Now press the button on the remote until the lights flash 5 times."
The lights never flash when i do it which made me think i've wired it wrong in regards to what ever it means by "on position"...

No one?
nothing?
I just need to know which wire gets closed from the ignition switch in the "on" position... the wire that gives power to the fuel pump solenoid among other things...

Sorry I can't read your bentley and mine is at the farm. If you have a test light you could find it

Yup... I can't see squat on those pictures unfortunately.
I *can* tell you that since the beginning of time Volkswagen has been very consistent in how they label their current paths using the German DIN standard... the 3 biggies are:
Current path #31 is ground (usually brown wire color)
Current path #30 is battery power, hot *all* the time (usually red wire color)
Current path #15 is switched battery power, on when the ignition key is "on" or "start" (usually black or red with a black stripe)
So, find yourself a handy #15 current path on the diagrams... ignition switch, radio, blower motor, rear window defogger, etc etc etc... when you go looking for it on your car it will likely be black or red with a black stripe.

i posted a lengthy reply but for some reason it didn't actually post...
anyways, yes vince it was the black wire! thanks so much!
i tested all my connections with my multimeter and they are all correct and good but it WILL NOT recognize the remote!!!
so i think canadian tire just sold me a $50 piece of garbage. No wonder it was on sale...

just means it has a gasser solenoid mounted to it, the other terminal is to power the Cold Start Injector..

did you ever get this to work eddy?
I was just thinking it would also be neat to be able to glow the glow plugs with the remote also. Dont know if thats ever been done, but it would be cool.

Unfortunately no. I can't get the remote to communicate with the reciever. The receiver also backfeeds to the glow plug light which I'm using to tell when to engage the starter. Ie. The light goes out it starts the starter. So once I put a diode in the wire to stop the backfeed I'm not going to pin the blame on the receiver.
