so, instead of buying the proper o-ring for the oil cooler, i used one off an oil filter.
was walking by the garbage can, saw a dead K&N oil filter, pulled off the gasket, fit the cooler like a glove, even fixed my oil leak.
but im worried about it lasting for a long time. shouldnt have any problems with it right? because its an oil filter o ring. it was made to seal to the bottom of the oil cooler, now its sealing the top of it.
i guess i just want to make sure someone doesnt have something to say like "its not gonna last" but why wouldnt it?
oh yea, when i took the old seal off my oil cooler, it broke in like 4 pieces, wasnt even flexible at all..
Don't see whay it won't work for a good long time. FWIW, the Stealership wants something like $8 for the proper seal.
ok, well in my mind, it seemed like it would work fine too.
and i figured that seal was stupid expensive probably, and it is. i will never pay 8 bucks for a single o ring.
and its an oil safe o-ring too.. better be atleast, coming off an oil filter and everything.. its a touch thicker than the stock o-ring too. so even as it ages, maybe i will get to tighten it one more time and get some more miles out of it. the stock one had been tightened too many times, and it was just leaking. was starting to take heater hoses out from oil soakage..
