I began rebuilding my diesel. It is a CY engine. I have bought just about everything I need for it. Everything basically in the engine block is being replaced except the crankshaft and the connecting rods. I have a few questions tho.
I have not found a place that lists the oil plugs for the oil galley where the oil squirters are at. They look like small freeze out plugs. They are at each end of the block. Where is their a source for them, or what is the correct size (diameter) to get at a regular parts supply place?
What i have done so far is had the block cleaned, and then honed at the machine shop. I beadblasted all accesories and etc. It is now painted and nearly all parts and accesories and brackets have been painted. I bought two crankshaft bearing sets to eliminate the center bearing that now comes with the sets. new pistons and german rings have been put on the connecting rods. Crankshaft is now installed and layed in place, but not bolted in.
I will start adding pics to this thread of what I have done, and what I am doing as I go.
What oil should I use in my transmission, and what about the air conditioning unit? It is unhooked and does not have any freon in it. Is thier a kit to convert it over from R12 to R134a?
Thanks for reading.
You mention wanting to pick up the plugs from a regular supply place, but I'm not sure if they'll have what you need. Your dealer can almost certainly get them, but it's not something you want to do over the phone. It would probably be best to snap a few pictures of the block, or at the very least, take a few measurement of the holes, and then head down to your local dealer. If it's a 10 mm hole, the plug will probably be 10.1 mm. You will be able to see them in ETKA, and it will also list their size.
Thank you. I placed my order today. $2 for parts, and $7 to ship it.
