Ok... well I've been reading up a little on the injector differences... and I know now that you can tell them apart by the longer body of the injector (which is mainly used on the 1.9L) as far as I understand.
Now my question is... I have a set of 1.9L (stock) 2 psing injectors... Could I use them in my 1.6L TD w/o a problem? I'm guessing pump timing would be effected somewhat... but what about fueling issues?
Would I be getting more fuel? Less fuel? Would a stock 1.6L TD pump be an ok match for stock 1.9L 2 spring injectors?
I've also read about people using the 2 spring injectors with the 1.6L GTD nozzle... is there an advantage of setting them up this way? As I was thinking of having my injectors rebuilt... I have some spares, so if someone could give me some insight and pros/cons to the 1/2 spring injector issue that would be great.
Regarding the 1.9LTD AAZ 2-spring injectors on a 1.6lTD:
Yes it works - and will give you up to 4% HP gain above 3000RPM. The downside: they will decrease power slightly below 3000RPM. Otimal timing has been worked out for this setup as well, at 1.00mm+. That's with the 1.9lTD 2-stage injectors, and stock 1984 1.6lTD injection pump and delivery valves.
Check out this thread off the old forum, it's totally relevant:

Aha, the old hostboard.. I thought of your post immediately after seeing this topic title last night and tried to find your relevant thread with Gtech plot included... searched and searched vwdiesel.net to no avail.
Very, very interesting... I think I'm going to have to try that... since I'm having my pump timed today anyways (thanks chrissev!)... and have to move the pump to get at that injector behind the LDA...
I just hope that the 1.9L injectors that I have somewhat the same pop off point still (they're used, and probably not off of the same motor.
Either way.. I'll give it a try.
Thanks for the help!
This might have been considered already, but...
I think I have read somewhere around here that the 1.9TD camplates had quite an higher lift than 1.6TD. Maybe the higher camplate is needed for the 2-spring injectors to open at their full potential (i.e. compress the 2nd stiffer spring and allow the bigger opening) ?
A mix-matched system may explain the not-so-good gains, and idling/ timing behaviour. ?
Well after reading the link from the old forum posted it actually shows an increase in power out put... Above 3k only, tho... So maybe the higher lift camplate (if that is true) only helps with the primary spring?
Honestly, my car idles just fine... now if my pump timing were good I would have an even better comparison. But so far, so good!
Also I've noticed that the 1.9L injectors say 150bar on them, while my 1 spring 1.6L injectors say 155bar... is that normal?
