I completly sure that at least one of my engine mounts (the rear drivers side transmision mount to be exact) is pretty much toast. I am going to replace it with-in the next week or so and I was wondering if I should just go with O.E.M replacements or if there is a better option.
Also how hard is it to change them. From what Ive seen there doesnt seem to be much to it, but it wont be the first time Ive greatly under estimated something.
I will probabley replace all of the mounts since the two engine mounts are extra cheap anyway.
Thanks,
Will.
Not all that hard if you have the right hand tools and a jack. air tools make it way easier too. A bunch of companies make stiffer mounts but in a diesel i could imagine that leading to ALOT of noise and vibration
Alright I checked the prices at the local dealer today and they seem pretty high, compared to the AUTO PARTS CANADA ONLINE price, even for the dealer. They were asking 98 for the front main motor mount, 72 for the rear drivers side tranny mount and 71 for the rear motor mount.
That is compared to the 22 for the front main motor mount, 60 for the rear drivers side tranny mount and 20 for the rear motor mount online.
What do you guys think of this.
Is it possible the mount I looked up online are possibley not for the diesel engine (even though they are listed under the mk3 AAZ engine?)
I have ordered MK1 diesel mounts from
www.AutoPartsWay.com and they, along with the site you referenced get there parts from a wholesale parts warehouse called WorldPac.. Depending on the brand name of the mount.. WolrdPac shows FEQ ad the brand they use for AAZ motor mounts.. and from what I have read I do not think they are good quality. Had a pair of mk1 FEQ strut mounts go bad in under a year..
Compare the names, and research what is a good name to use.
The difference could also be in that some dealers some of the time mark stuff up a few hundred percent. I know nothing of aaz mounts or mk3's so I am not of real use regarding the different brands.
I ordered a complete set from prothe in my golf MK3. Compared to my old MK2 NA, the mK3 turbo(new motor as well) is much, much smoother. I don't know if that's due to the rebuild or the mounts. They were cheap, but seemed sufficient quality wise...
