Howdy.
I am SLOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWLLLLLLYYYYY getting round to installing (much like many others on here) a 1Z TDi engine into the MK2 Golf GTi 16v 1989. I took a 1996 Mk3 golf TDi as a donor car, dropped the engine subframe/cradle complete with motor out of the shell and offered it up to the MK2 GTi, where it fitted perfectly with a slight mod to the RHS chassis rail for pulley clearance. I am using the MK3 cradle, ARB, steering rack, hubs, bottom arms etc. (In other words the entire cradle assy).
My question at the moment lies with the suspension geometry - I imagined I will be using MK2 GTI suspension (uprated or std not important at this time) bolted onto the mk3 TDi hubs/wishbones/ARB etc assembly. After a loose mock up the wheels seem to be running a lot of camber (positive or negative I can never remember which is which - they are sloping outwards towards the ground). The track measurement I have now found is greater for the MK3 than the MK2 (cant find the exact number right now but I have seen it on a website somewhere). But I have been told that the engine and subframe bolt off the MK3 and straight onto the MK2 without a problem.
So does anyone know if the MK2 GTi 16v bottom arms are shorter than the Mk3 TDi ones? I could get out there and take one off to measure but it a whole lot easier to ask for someone with experience!! Do I simply have to remove the TDi bottom arms and put the 16v GTi ones in their place and then get the geometry set?

From what I have read you are on it. I think the corrado had something like this going on. LordVerminard would probably know and several others for sure, but I am pretty sure the MKIII lowers have a wider track. I could be wrong though. Good luck.

Yeah - the MK3 definitely has a wider track, but what is the component(s) that make the track wider? Im hoping it is just the lower ams but need to find out if anyone knows for sure.....
Control arms are longer on the MK3. Also, the tierods are as well.
Swap those for the mk2 ones and you will be golden.
I suspect that means Mk2 axles? Can I get away with mk3? B4?
