Guy at napa matched my old head bolts and after getting everything back together and killing time on this forum I saw that this is a no no. I have 8 of the old head bolts (chopped and slotted 2 to hold the gasket on when putting the head back on). I have only warmed up the engine and have not driven it yet so would it be wise to replace the head studs with the original ones doing it one at a time?
The holes are plenty deep for the gasser head bolts.. The worry would be whether they and/or the block are strong enough. The gasser bolts are stretch bolts so they require a different torque procedure.. I think the spec is 54 ft/lbs plus one quarter turn.. I'd be a bit leary of the block cracking on that last quarter turn.. I have heard a few claims of the gasser bolts working okay.. Seems like I get one of these engines in front of me with gasser bolts, the reason I have it is because the HG failed and/or the block is cracked...
