Hey guys, I can get a good deal ($20) on an incomplete Mercedes 240D Bosh injection pump. I'd like to know if I should pick it up? Any parts that might be useful for a 1.6TD injection pump?
Thanks in advance.
is the 240 a 4 cyl pump? If it is... maybe it could be adaptable! Lots of fuel potential!!!!
ok just checked... yea its a 4 cyl pump! but no turbo
All the Mercedes (that I know of) used an inline pump. Maybe it could be adapted, but I'm not entirely sure how that would really help you.

Non turbo and modulated by vacuum that is generated by a throttle plate in the intake. Really a wonderful piece  , avoid at all costs... Shares nothing with the VE.

The 240D had a throttle plate? I didn't know any diesels had those. But I've never took a close look at how the old mercs were built, other than to see that they were in line pumps instead of rotary ones.

Yeah, believe it or not there were a few diesels made with throttle plates. Stupid design if you ask me though, since by nature a diesel engine needs huge quantities of air.
There were many early diesels that used vacuum governors, the mercedes 240D was one. Some tractors and stationary engines that used simms injection pumps had throttle plate/vacuum governors, "nuffield" tractors for one. I think nissan was the last holdout on the vacuum governor, they used that setup into the 80's on the SD22.

Yup, the Toyota 3B engine uses uses a throttle plate as well. You'd think that it would defeat one of the diesel engine's inherant advantages over gas engines, that is avoiding pumping losses at the throttle. Yet the Toyo 3B has the reputation of being a very fuel efficent engine. Mine delivers mid-twenty figures in a heavy, boxy truck. About twice the 10 to 12 mpg it gave with the original gasser six.

Thanks a lot for the answers guys. Guess I won't be picking this thing up.
Throttled diesels??? Sounds kinda... stupid.
