Didn't you get CD's in Alaska, or are you a purist audiophile? I have listened 35,000 dollar home audio stuff that still won't quite come as clean as a 1,000 record player.

I am far from an audiophile( I have a few friends who are), but I appreciate the clarity of vinyl.
the real reason I got the turntable is to digitize the old vinyl my parents have that does not exist(in any format) anymore.
lots of really cool stuff that I felt bad about playing over and over again, wearing the old record down.
my turntable has a USB output, and that coupled with Audacity, makes for some really good copies of priceless records.
not to say that I don't spin my tunes on it all the time, but I do that with stuff that you can buy new.

(ot) props for the vinyl
Digital is nice, but nothing beats having that record in hand and on the turntable!
