Hey everyone,
So I'm new to this forum, not to mention new to building cars. But I have an '84 Mk1 Diesel Jetta in great shape, and right now, all I need to get it running is a wiring harness, an alternator, and some injector lines. I plan on doing a fair bit of work on the interior as well. I don't have pictures at the moment but I'll be glad to post some later. Any advice or suggestions to get my car running smoothly, or just tips in general would be greatly appreciated!

I'm looking forward to learning more about VWs!
Welcome aboard. Buy a Bentley service manual if you don't have one yet. You should be able to get it for around $30 new
if its missing these crucial running items, i'm going to assume it hasn't run in a while eh?
A good dose of diesel purge in the first tank will do wonders. I would also suggest new oil and coolant. as well as new oil and fuel filters.. probably gonna want to replace the Glowplugs while your in there.. pretty reasonable for good ones and their %100 needed for starting. Other than all of that, as long as the fuel pump is in good shape.. it should be a good little runner!
good luck, and welcome to one of the best VW Diesel sites around
Welcome!!! Take a jaunt through the FAQ when you get the chance, lost of good info in there.. Matter of fact we ought to add a write up in there of some sort to that.. Maybe a checklist of where to start after buying and resurecting one of these...

I would focus on getting it running before adding new variables to the equation
Check your timing belt out as well! If it's questionable, change it!
Excelent, you're on here finally Alex!
The car runs like a top you fool! The Jet-Li just needed some parts and seeing that I need my car to run, and you don't have your drivers license... anywho...
He's got a bentley, but its the gasser version unfortunately. If anyone needs one, hit him up with a pm and im sure hed be glad to ship it out.
Glowplugs and everything are great, dad and I tested em when we bought the car. Just needs a wiring harness, alternator, some injector return lines, a spit shine and she'll be ready to rock.
And for those wondering, this is the car that I posted a classified ad for the wiring harness. You even get to see it get used!
Get some pictures up little bro!
