I know they came stock in the Audi 80/90 in Europe, but i am wondering if the audi tdi was different in some major way??
Anyone know of any B4 90's that have been converted in this way?
For extra info on the car it is a 93 90cs quattro sport, 2.8 v6
Love the car but missin havin serious torque

Audi never made 80/90 quattro with diesel, only fwd. Engine will bolt to transmission, there is both (4 and 5/6/8cyl)bolt patterns. V6 mounts on chassis are different than 4 and 5cyl. YouŽll need to weld the 4/5cyl ears to frame, or go custom with mounts. Custom would probably be easier than find B4 diesel motor mounts, other side is different than B4 4cyl gasser. V6 radiator lower coolant hose is wrong side.

Go look at tdiclub.com there's a few Audi conversions being worked right now. I'm considering this myself, but it's not a bolt-in. I want a diesel wagon, but I also want AWD... not sure if it's better to put a Syncro drivetrain into a Passat TDI wagon, or do the TDI into an Audi Avant... The Audis are nicer cars all-around.

The build quality on Passat B4s is good and their parts are certainly cheaper and less complex then that of the Audis however I do agree that Audi certainly makes a nice car.

MJF, you're saying the motor will bolt right up. Is there any clearance issues? I guess once a 1.9 is in there it will be pretty roomy. Motor mounts would definitely have to be custom. I assume the tranny can take the torque, how about the stock clutch though?
Oil pan is different with longitudal engines, transverse pan will not fit. Otherwise, there is more room in B4 engine bay than in B5. V6 flywheel and clutch will not fit to 4cyl, youŽll need 4cylinder ones. Easiest would be if you find longitudal tdi.

Easy for you....not so easy over here. The only longitudinaly TDIs we got were the PD B5.5 Passats - which were all tiptronic.

There's a guy on the TDIClub who lives in Toronto who has an early 90's I-5 2.5L TDI engine complete. $2500 I think was his asking price.

It won't be early 90s if it's a TDI. If it's a 2.4, 2,500 is a bit much unless it is freshly rebuilt or something. Do you have a link? I would love to have another one to go with my 2.0TD and 2.5TDI projects.

2,5TDI was introduced in 1990, isnŽt that early 90s?
That engine was going in 4kq, too bad it didnŽt

well, i have had the audi for a bit now and after alot of poking around under the bonnet i found a few vacuum lines disconnected....holy Crap what a difference now they're on. One was for the variable intake, which is sorta necessary in the upper revs. After driving diesels for the last 4 or 5 years i have to say this is one smooooth motor. I will actually enjoy this gasser.
Until i have a tdi to put in it!
Which model of tdi motor takes the m conversion best (hate electrical)? Will the 016 bolt up to a tdi if i decide to go that route? What years did canada have the 2.5 tdi, if ever? Which tdi's should be avoided?
