• Why hello there. 
  
  I was wondering who has had experience with Prothe's EGT gauges..
  
  
  
  
  I mean it doesn't look too bad for $44.. Obviously a lot of the gauge is not used, but does that really matter? I'm not gonna nit pick for the price. I know Smokey Eddy has one and works fine for him. I'm not looking for something that is gonna give me super accurate at 1280F just before she melts down.. Just something thats gonna let me know when I get to 1100F and thats all im lookin for

  heres what the gauges look like
  
  The 2c2-1 (very top) is what I have only it goes down to 200 F. Whereas the one pictured is the 2c2 is 6 to 16 x100F...as you can see for the money it isn't much different and this is the fastest reacting thing out there.

  I know it is a very vital part, but i figure its better to have a cheap one, then not one at all right? lol So with this Spruce one, you have to buy the gauge and sender separate? Or is the $48 price tag include gauge and sender? There site is kinda skimpy on information sadly..

• I think they are separate, but the one gauge is a little cheaper I believe and the sender is cheap too. I would have to look at total cost, but I think I had less than 70.00 in everything including some extra ktype leads from andrew.

• McNally has the best for cars, that is relatively cheap. McNally's are car specific, a wee bit pricier  but if you want the best bang for the buck, I'd go search ebay for a high end one and hold out to bid til the last second.

• I would think if you go to the trouble of installing it you could spend the extra 44. Shop around there are cheaper sites...I think the westach site is better than the aircraft site.
  I wanted mine so I could have cool down. The oil will cook at 600 F so I wanted to know for sure that I was good to shut off. Heat soak you know:D

  You're posting 'cause you're asking for opinion's right?!  If so, respectfully, here's mine:  I would argue that in the case of safety or diagnostic equipment a cheap one is at best pointless and in some situations probably *worse* than having none at all.  In the case of EGTs... common sense will probably limit your use of the go-pedal... whereas an inaccurate gauge could easily make you think you're fine when you aren't.  And you're 45 bucks poorer to boot.  
  
  I've got no data to suggest that this particular gauge is inaccurate... other than the fact that, as you mention, the vast majority of the scale is unusable... meaning the actual numbers you need are pretty compressed.  I do know that by foregoing a few brewskis this week (or lattes, if you're anything like me   you could get yourself an aircraft-quality instrument that is proven on our cars and will not lie to you just when you need it the most.  Sensor installed pre-turbo, of course, despite the fact that the manifold will probably have to come off to do it.

• I'd rather wait and save up to have a proven, quality one in the case of EGT gauge. Any other gauge, I would be fine with something cheap but EGT's are too important in my opinion to cheap out on. I have the Spruce probe and ISSPRO gauge and love it.

• I am very happy with my auber instruments EGT gauge, it was reasonably priced, is accurate and has a warning light/buzzer that you can set to whatever you would like(and can be used to switch things like water/meth sprayers)
  
  it is digital, which is kinda a bummer, but it is still easy to read and fast to react.

• My Ebay'd AutoMeter Cobalt looks friggen sweet, and seems to work well.
  I'd probably opt for used brand name before new cheapest no - name

• I purchased all three of there Gauges
  
  Oil psi/oil temp
  Optional adapter: Mounts to filter adapter for both , easy Install
  
  Boost Psi / EGT, Drilled and tapped manifold, easy install on exhaust and intake
  
  Water temp / Volt Gauge
  
  water temp goes into 1.6 Coolant Neck , Again Easy Install
  
  Volt/Battery wire into fuse box, Easy
  
  I paid good money for this money and Turbo/ Giles pump and I want to see correct readings
  
  All three gauges fit in my center console
  
  You get what you pay for !

  My time to install is worth more than my mechanic / Wrench and he has never seen such good quality and complete installation instructions.

   There is no difference between *F in a car or plane. They will probably work well in a plane or ultralight or big truck. Just McNally is a car oriented company and builds their gauges for car apps.

  What about a normal everyday sender, and a good brand gauge? isn't it just two electrical connections comin off the probe?

  What about GREDDY? I found one on ebay, and it is in good condition. brand new. starts at 300f and has big accurate spaces between 3,6 and 9 and then 10-11-12 are close together.
  
  It only goes up to 12.. Will that be enough? I doubt I want to really go any higher anyway.
