Now comes the time for an intercooler on my daily. Its a 1994 Jetta td with a giles pump, boost controller set at 18psi and a 3" turbo back straight pipe. Any idea on what sizes cooler to run? Im obviously looking for the best fitting and smallest (yet still efficient) so I can turn it up to 20 and not worry. Turbo is a k14
Thanks!!
I've been really in to the idea of doing an air/water intercooler. Not having to get the charge pipe out to the front of the car and not cutting up my bumper support is the main reason...
Do you have AC in your car?
Same here. I've been thinking air/water to save space on my AAZ Caddy.
The other thing I've been thinking in favor of air/water is I rarely am driving on heavy boost for long periods of time. Air/Air's big strength is it doesn't heat soak (or shouldn't if it's constantly in airflow) whereas if you end up managing to heat up all the water in your air/water system it'll take longer to cool down. On the flip side, water can hold a heck of a lot of heat!! Air/water with a fan can pull the temps down while you're sitting still which air/air can't.
But yeah, my vision has been sticking something in front of my radiator, either an AC condenser (she doesn't have AC) or something meant for an intercooler and rigging up an air/water setup.
Cool stuff ive been thinking about the air/water cooler too but since im not under alot of boost constantly id rather go air/air. I do have ac too
I just bought an intercooler for my 1.6 td. It's an audi model by the looks of it, I was thinking of doing turning my AC into a charge cooler, like lotus did in the early 90's.
I ran my air/air in front of the radiator on my MKI there is not a lot of room up there, so I had to try a few different intercoolers before I got one that fit. It really brought the EGT's down a fair amount. I am pleased for now, but we will see how it goes this summer. You can see pics of it in my build thread if you are interested.
yeah im concerned about my egts so il definitely look into a front mount
