Well, no AAZ's at our local friendly breaker, so an early TDi cam out of a Mk3 passat it is. Unknown miles, which is a nuisance as the mileometers in these things are electronic, so who knows? Undecided. Just for the interested the lobe measurements were, Base circle 37.98mm, Best Tip to Base 46.28mm, Worst 46.12mm.
So lift would be assumed as 8.3mm. But looks as though some wear is on its way. 0.16mm, but hopefully it will make less racket than the present occupant. Wish me luck. Grin
Hmm....... Deep thought. Just measured the cam as is in the engine. This is a SB engined GTD, so should be the real deal, Base Circle same or similar to above 37.98mm No.1 cam peak I measure 46.82mm, No.2 is 45.80mm, No.3 is 46.81mm, Oh joy, clapped cam, I have found it! No.4 45.82mm WTF says I, No.5 45.82mm, depression setting in, No.6 46.80mm, No.7 45.82mm, No.8 46.82mm. So the good news is I have a fine camshaft, If I have it right, the valves go EIEIIEIE, if so then Exhaust lift is 8.84mm ish, Intake lift is 7.84mm ish. Weird, go figure. Huh
Here was the full monty.

Since we are on the cam subject, my aaz cam needs a cam gear, didn't come with one. Is there a substitute, or do I have to use the aaz cam?

can we dig up the numbers of 1.5, n/a cams, eco cams, and 1.6td cams? perhaps different years were different as well. also the aey and 1y are very similar and may have the same cam

Wait! don't tell me that the turbo cam and the N/A cam sprocket are different, I just got one from another member.

the lift atleast, is the same on all diesel cams ive played with. my 1.5, 1.6, and 1.6td all have roughly the same lift.

The cam sproket isn't but the cam specs may be slightly. Nothing major. Physically All IDI cam interchange and i believ so do TDI cams.
