so my fuel gauge has been out of commision since i got my '90 N/A diesel. i've yet to take out the sending unit to inspect but before i do that i was looking in my bently and looking over some wiring diagrams when i noticed that there is a wire used for the water separator also is labeled with "fuel gauge sender"
now the PO of my car has removed the water separator and i was wondering if after they removed it they left a loose ground would this cause the fuel gauge to not function? could the fix simply be to fix the ground?
The water separator has 2 wires going to it. You snip those and that's all there is to it. It should have zero effect on the sending unit. I'm not saying the PO didn't mess it up though.
this is what made me think of it... page is 106 of current flow diagrams in the A2 bentley
never mind. stupid me i was looking at the wrong model year.
