I am having a hard time trying to remove the timing belt tensioner on my 1984 rabbit 1.6na. The tensioner will not come off of the stud that it bolts too. The stud is too long and the tensioner hits the motor mount on the frame rail when trying to remove it. Does anyone have this problem like me, and how did you fix the problem.
Thank you
Jack up the engine with a floor jack just enough to gain clearance. Check your pass side engine mount- it may be shot.
I just took the passenger side mount bolt out and used the floor Jack to raise it up. Worked well be careful nOt to break anything with the Jack
I've heard others say they just double-nutted the stud and unscrewed the entire stud, rather than trying to remove the tensioner from the stud. Thankfully there's plenty of room on my car!
Thank everyone for the input. I especially like the one where you double not the stud and back it out. That way of doing it seems much easier then using the floor jack method. Thank you, I'll try that method!
I've pulled the tensioner off as far as it'll go and then grab the unthreaded part of the stud and unscrew it.
Then put the new tensioner on the stud and put the stud back in the head.
