So after a day of searching about MLS's on 11mm blocks i kinda have a good idea of what to do but haven't had a difenitive awnser on what to do about putting one on my engine.
So what i have found out is that i need to cover part of the front drain hole with part of an oil filler cap gasket. Then i need to center it as best i can between my ARP studs. but what im uncertin of is, is a 1.9L headgasket i need? If so will the one from Mike Welch at Dub Docters work?
Then the last issue is what thickness do i need? Im running a 5 notch 1.5l headgasket now, what is equilivent in the 1.9L world?

You need to measure your piston heigth at TDC above the deck. This will tell you what thickness. Do they take into account gasket compression when they make MLS ?
If i recall it around .036-.037in protrusion
get a bently or 3 and start compairing thicknesses of gaskets. you can get a mental equivalency for what mls gasket you will need.
Yea that would be a fail proof way of doing it but i dont feel like buying Bentlys for 2 gens of cars that i dont have....
I know someone else has done this to an 11mm block.....
Are the thicknesses the same for the 1.9L and the 1.6L? if thats the case i'll just use the equivlent to a 1.6L block
Also what year and model car will i have to but a headgasket for?
Thanks Cambo

From the Mk3 Bentley I have, we have these figures:
Piston protrusion / Gasket notches
AAZ.66-.86mm (.0260-.0339 in) / 1
.87-.90mm (.0343-.0354 in) / 2
.91-1.02mm ( .0358-.0402 in) / 3
AHU, 1Z.91-1.00mm (.0358-.0394 in) / 1
1.01-1.10mm (.0398-.0433 in) / 2
1.11-1.20mm (.0437-.0472 in) / 3
So there ya have it, that's what the good book says about piston protrusions and diesel headgaskets for the AAZ and AHU/1Z engines.
So if i were to order a headgasket for a 95 Jetta with a 1.9L TD is that the gasket that i will need, and would it be a AHU/1Z or an AAZ? or should i just get one from Mike Welch for a 1.9L?
So after getting ready to put my 1.9L MLS gasket on my 1.5l, i realized that the gasket i got was for a Hydro head instead of a Mech head....
Whats my options for putting an MLS on my engine? The hydro supply for the lifters would make it impossable to put the gasket i got on my engine, is there an MLS for a Mech 1.9l engine?
Thanks, Cambo

There are no mechanical lifter 1.9 engines. Part of the swap of a 1.9 MLS onto a 1.6 mechanical is the modifications to the head and block to make holes match up.
gasketstogo.com makes 1.6td mech MLS
