cool video...
the guy knows is stuff lol

Wow, indeed... Nice deconstruction, Andrew, I learned a lot from your post, about how NOT to proceed!
Tidbits like these are a huge help to us beginners...
And the way he man-handles the head getting it out of, and back into the engine compartment, can't be good for the mating surfaces. Obviously, as long as the engine starts and runs for a few thousand miles, this guy gets paid. Beyond that, he doesn't care.
No torque wrench on the injectors?? And he doesn't follow the CARDINAL RULE of ALWAYS pushing toward the head with the bar. No wonder the injector boss got cracked which is stated as the reason for the head removal in the first place.
Could you explain this in more detail please. I am currently in need of a 1.6l hydro head because one of the bosses cracked and broke apart.
Thanks
seems like a tight space working in a vanagon.

never worked on one myself, but props to all that do. seems like a lot to go through compared to a fwd car.
You can probably chalk up the lack of detail to the editing needed to cut it down to youtube 10-minute length, but given the details we can see, that may be a blessing.
I was wondering what the schmutz was he smeared all over the manifold... some kind of form-a-gasket? Didn't want to pop for a new metal gasket.

I recognized the copper anti-seize on the glo-plugs, I didn't see him put it on the head bolts

i didn't see the anti seize on the head bolts either... but whats he doing at 6:35? chasing the threads or something?
and for the injectors... if you examine it better you'll notice that as they snug up he begins to pull against the head and not the boss.
big fan of the copper anti seize on all that stuff.
