hello i have a 91' jetta with a 1.6 turbo but mine idles at 950-1000 some time what is it support to be at i know its lower then normal but is it fine for it to idle this low or should i turn it up thanks
900 is not low for a diesel to idle at, at all, in my opinion.
The new TDI's idle at 900.
If it idles (and runs) properly at 950 i wouldn't change anything.
Most cars idle at 900 or 1,000 rpm except for the newer cars that will idle at 1,500-2,000 for a minute or so on a "cold" start [like parents' subaru].
(Edit:gas cars)
To the best of MY knowledge anyways.
If anything I'd have thought that was quite high. I'd have thought 800 would be more normal.
Mine idles around 950. It's probably the smoothest there for my engine
I can't get mine to idle below around 1100 lol

Advance the timing? turn out the fuel screw if the idle is all the way out...? You should be able to kill the engine by tampering with the pump getting the idle lower.
