Well i kinda raced an SiR coupe (my girlfriend's, twin's, boyfriend's) and it was a very very close match! I couldn't believe it!!! all be it he had himself and the two girls in his an i had my self and the girl's brother in mine... but i was very impressed with the little 1.6l un-naturally aspirated to 4.8L (is that correct for 2 bar boost? thats like adding two atmospheres of pressure yes?) oil burner. I burnt 10L of diesel and he had to fill up! One for the little guys!
Anyways, long story short my clutch is absolutely fried.
Can anyone give me some advice on finding one that would be suitable for my engine? Do i want a NEW tdi clutch? like for a 90+ hp tdi... perhaps even the PD?
Do i just need a pressure plate?
and so on. If anyone could pm me some wisdom or post on here i would really appreciate it.
I've never taken this car to a shop before and it would be a real shame to end my streak here, especially as im working my behind off to save up enough money for uni without TOO big of a loan

.
Thanks a bunch!
ps, the car is driveable but i can easily slip the clutch in 3rd and 4th and i know the more it smooths that plate the worse it will get. torque is was makes the clutch slip i find.
I found the problem. There was something jamming the cable. No fried clutch after all just a stupid me.
I can't delete this thread for some reason?

Why not leave it up for the next guy who thinks he may have fried his clutch in future? Gives him something to check before he replaces it.

Stay safe,stay well. Jimmy.
ok good point. But i really don't know how a normal person could do what i did....
you really don't want to know what was jammed in the clutch...
the relay off the fan shroud had fallen off and was like... being deformed between the arm of the clutch and the housing of the transmission...
if your car is keeping up with an SiR then the 1.6 clutch shouldn't be holding the power... i think early 1.9 clutches will fit, but could be wrong.
catlin cava has an AAZ ckutch for sale. That would be a sweet upgrade.
its 28$ USD to ship it to Canada
TDI clutch is 28 spline. different flywheel too i think. you'd need to swap a an 02A or 02J as well, and go with vr6 clutch
that sounds like a lot of work that i have no clue about.
any other suggestions?
What I'm doing is using a standard 8v Gasser clutch/flywheel/pressure plate. It's a direct bolt-on and is slightly larger, therefore able to handle more power. I've known people with turbo gassers making 180-ish hp on stock clutches just fine. You'll want to find a way to mark the gasser flywheel at TDC though for timing purposes.
If you need more than that, you can use a 16v pressure plate and an 8v clutch, the 16v pressure plate is slightly stiffer.
More than that, and it's time to step up to a clutchnet unit.
Even if a TDI clutch could easily swap, which it can't, they are junk anyway.

thanks for the insight!!!
