New Paint Job for the Golf!

Well it was only spose to take 7-10 days according to the body shop.......(Right!) I was without my beloved Golf for almost 3 months!!!!!!!
Oh well, it is back in my garage now!
Here is a before pic:

And here are a couple after pics:


Now all I need to do is get a turbo charger installed, and I will be all set!!!

By the way, I stayed with the original paint code: LE5C (Dark Cosmic Blue)

Beautiful!! Got one just like it and a house just like it!!! Soon as I swap motor and mags (got mags just like it, too) I'll try to post pics.

If you don't mind me asking... How much did you pay? I want to save my 79. Its as straight as an arrow with no dents, but it is starting to surface rust under the windows and the bottom of the doors....

Well, I had it repainted because there was some dents here and there as well as some surface rust that was coming through in several spots.
As far as cost, the owner of the body shop qouted me $1200 and he said I could pay him as I get the money. I gave the guy a check for $300 when I picked the car up, and I intend on paying him two more installments of $300. However, I am only gonna pay him a total of $900. Reason being, is that he threw away my original passenger side fender (Which was dented, but repairable!!!!) When he threw the original fender away, he forgot to take off the little black piece of body molding that goes onto the fender. He also broke my front grill!!! Several tabs were broken and it barely stays in.

You guys ain't gonna believe this, but here I just got the car repainted and the wife say's: "Maybe we should sell the Golf and upgrade to a newer TDI!"
So, if I can find something in this area that fit's our budget, this little gem may come up for sale!

paint it your self with enamel paint.
Tremclad makes wonderful rust paint. Many colours.
just thin it with mineral spirits and roll it on with one of those high desity sponge rollers.
google $50 paint job or tremclad paint job. There are billions of DIY's on it.
the paint will cost you at most $50. I flat black'd my jetta and i only used maybe 2 quarts of paint?
those wooden handle black sponge applicators are good for the hard to reach places. it just takes time sanding down the old paint. but hey, if you only charge your own time at about $100/hr it's worth doing it your self.

Anyone know of any cheap paint you could roll on that will hold up to UV rays better?

I wonder if you could have someone clear coat it afterward if that would make it last longer... it would definitely up the price but it might be worth it not to have to repaint ever other year.

Kinda defeats the purpose. You can't clear over enamel based paint, it won't stick. Plus, the clear is usually the most expensive component in a paintjob, unless you are painting a red car. There is cheap clear, but it usually does not have any UV screens in it. Figure about $150 or so for enough good clear to do a car.
Also, nobody ever says on those $50 paint jobs that they have $150 in tape and sandpaper. You have to sand for countless hours between each coat of paint, much more sanding than even a "normal" paint job, and that adds up really quickly.
The only real way to do a very cheap paintjob is to scuff the surface with scotch-brite, tape everything off, and rattle-can it with flat or satin. It will look pretty good for a little while. There is no real cheap, easy way to get a lasting, good-looking paintjob.
I've been doing part-time bodywork for a handful of years now, and while I'm no expert, I'm learning what works and what doesn't.
