Folks,
I bought the clutch kit for my 90 IDI, installing an 86 AGS trans. Bentley says to replace the pressure plate bolts as they are one time use. Are these hard to locate? I have a NAPA close by, but they get easily confused. They are telling me there are 3 different shaft sizes for the pilot shaft seal on the transmission. My other FLAPS got bought out by Federated and they are having a rough transition.
My current pressure plate looks fine, but I hate to have it all apart and not replace it. This tranny swap was educational as it is my first FWD. Prior to this, the only trans I have swapped were aircooled.
Any thoughts?

yes, you need to replace them. They are one time use because they stretch when they are torqued.. they are like $2 a piece from them dealer...

FWIW... that's how I do it... I've got it all apart, for a bit extra I know that there's no way I'm going to have to pull the tranny again for many many years to come... cheap piece of mind IMHO. Pressure plates are tough but they do warp and/or break.
For this same reason I tend to also replace the engine seal on that side, the input shaft seal on the tranny, and both the pushrod bushing and seal. Price of seals: 50 bucks. Preventing having to pull it all apart within the next 5-10 years: priceless.

A painful exercise to be sure. Will DEFINITELY replace the rear crank seal while I am at it. I love this car, but the old trans and the engine seem to leak from every orifice, and you folks are right about doing it ONCE, while the tranny is out. Was going to use the old pressure plate, but after seeing the crank seal in the kit from GAP have decided to go "all the way" on this one. My new AGS tranny is looking pretty good after clean up and cold shifts by hand rather smoothly. It does have 170k on it, but it is WAY tighter than my 90 tranny.
